In common usage, at least in USA, broken marriages also includes divorced partners, i.e. "children of a broken marriage"--Stan BECKER 18:28, 25 November 2014 (CET)

In the French volume fr-ii:51#512, the meaning of 512-7 is very different and is still related to forced separation because of wars (couples dissociés). In the German volume de-ii:51#512, widowhood is also a cause of "broken marriage", but I don't if in the USA a broken marriage includes widowhood.
